| Myles Metson -Co-President |
Myles Metson is our very own mad scientist. You’ll know him by his dynamite curls, designer frames and his almost palpable aura of stoke, plus he’ll probably be asking to crash on your floor for a few days come term time - he’s really organised with housing dontcha know. Somehow he’s spent the last two years skipping lectures to go kitesurfing, and then pulling sweet grades out of the bag when no-one was looking. It’s actually getting quite annoying. Mr. Metson is one cheery dude who’ll gladly help you on the beach, all the time, anytime. Unless he’s kiting himself. Which is often. So maybe not anytime… |
| Greg Butt -Vice President |
Greg is one of the up and coming pro’s of the club, He’s got some sweet roils down, there even on facebook in black and white (ooh), always on the water, and always at the socials, he’s a face you’re sure to know soon! Except on those frequent cross dressing nights, where all you’ll remember is one really offensive lady! With 4 more years of uni left, owning all his own kit (quite unusual infact!!) and a house by the beach, he is bound to be a sweet kiter, especially with those raileys being just a few sessions away!
Butty is one really relaxed guy, always happy to give his opinion, whether you like it or not!, and if you’re lucky enough to get out kiting with him, he always makes the effort to make sure the newbies get out as well! |
| James Bowker -Trips Sec |
Bowker has been kiting longer than anyone else on the committee and has settled into the role of the cynical old man, moaning about how easy people have it nowadays with their ‘depower’ kites. Refusing to go out unless it’s forecasted 25kts plus, he will be seen attempting to go bigger and harder than ever with his one ‘freestyle’ trick (f16). He is by choice a wave man with many (unconfirmed) stories of getting pitted and loves the massive swell that regularly passes through the Solent…. A chatty man, and a well travelled kiter,
Bowker can offer advice on most of the major kiting spots around the world. Unless he’s finished his bottle of rum challenge, in which case he will just fall over and smash his head through a wall. As trip sec, Bowkers job is to ensure that we get to go to the raddest, windiest places we can. |
| Alex 'Mad-Dog' Martin -Social Sec |
Alex ‘Mad Dog’ Martin has been a ‘Faithful’ member of SUKS for 2 years now – despite this he has only just got round to learning to kite… This is probably due to him having to juggle many ‘commitments’ last year.
As one of this years social secs he will be leading us on many an epic night out. His favorite nights out are fancy dress – where he will be sporting a sequined thong or a skimpy school girls outfit (Ask him about the back story to that one – if you dare).
His obsession for fried chicken is the source of his other nickname – The Colnol; be warned though if he offers you some beans – its not what you think…
He is an all round kind and above all a modest chap. If you have any problems this is the man to seek out for help – unless you are a small rodent as he has a passionate and irrational fear of them and WILL kill them with his bear hands… He hates talking about himself, so much so that he hasn’t told anyone he went to Cyprus to do turtle conservation over the summer. Oh wait... |
| Simon 'Keeno' Clough -Social Sec |
Simon ‘Keeno’ Clough is, by far, the keenest kitesurfer/person to ever live. After weirding everyone out by chugging raw eggs (completely unprompted) on the first trip last year, this particularly keen bean has been a ‘memorable’ figure in his short time in the club. Keeno LOVES to surf (we stole him from SUSURF after all) and has been getting into wavestyle in a big way. And boy does he just love to finish his sessions with a deep water packdown! Few fun facts – he hates wearing clothes, looks scarily convincing dressed as a lady, has a secret love of death metal, and dances like a boss. Freshers beware, he’s never remembered a SUKS night out..
|
| Mike Pownall -Web Geek |
Mike is the resident web-geek who is responsible for the SUKS website (which I think you’ll agree looks sweet), and everything to do with trip sign ups and clothing orders. If you are having trouble just give him a bell and he’ll be able to sort you out.
A proud northerner, he has deep suspicions of anyone found south of Manchester. Mike can only kite-surf in a 20 to 21 knot wind range so despite being in the club for 2 years the only time you will see him around a kite is launching someone else’s, or asleep under one, maybe dreaming of his next pizza (Which he won’t eat off a plate). Along with kiting his other hobbies include rowing (apparently he used to be good) and projectile hurling his evenings refreshments over cash machines. Let’s hope there is a Dr. around to pet his poor hung-over head… |
| Ollie Cook -Bosun |
|
The few times that Olie gets up on the water he struggles to keep in the air for long as his kite is always breaking! But at least we know he has some idea of how to fix kites. He is still in the early stages of kitesurfing, due to his epic lack of kit or money to buy kit; so he usually ends up on a finless club board whilst Myles has the parts to put them back together. His favourite time kitesurfing was when he accidentally let go of his kite whilst trying to instruct someone on how to deep-water pack down and then watching his kite float off across the Solent. If you ever wake Olie up before 10am be sure to have a car full of kites and enough money for a McDonalds breakfast or else...
Olies job is to ensure that all of our club kit so harnesses, boards, LEI and foil kites have all the parts they need and are in working properly for all you lovely people. If you break your kite (or club kites for that matter) you should get in touch with Olie as he has great experience in fixing them. But be warned he will probably be fixing his when you call!
